Learn to use your digital SLR and gain the foundational skills to becoming a great photographer! In this course, we will start from ground zero and cover basic camera functions, equipment care, composition, and the principles of light and exposure. We will also cover the basics about photographic tools such as tripods, filters, etc. Owning a DSLR prior to taking this course is recommended.
6 week course ~ one 2 hour session per week

Sharpen your photographic skills by learning advanced tools and techniques. Topics include using light meters, histograms, AF modes, and more. We will also discuss tips and techniques on different photographic styles such as portraits, landscapes, sports, etc. One class field trip will allow students to gain in-the-field instruction with the opportunity to have their images critiqued.
4 week course ~ three 2.5 hour sessions and one 4-5 hour field trip

Photographs with strong composition have impact. Learn to use time-tested principles of design to improve your photography. These lessons can apply to all forms of photography as well as most other visual art forms. Gain a better understanding of line, shape, texture, color and more to produce an image with intrigue and excitement. There will be opportunity to discuss different photographers’ images as well as fellow students. This class is designed for all level of photographers and artists with any type of camera.

Get a renewed appreciation for the great outdoors by gaining the skills to take great nature photos. Learn the basics about the various types of nature photography, equipment used, techniques, and useful references. One class field trip will allow students to gain invaluable in-the-field instruction with the opportunity to have their images critiqued.

Discover a style of photography that allows for a new awareness of our world. Close-up and macro photography have an infinite amount of options for subject matter. Nature, portrait, jewelry, commercial photographers will all benefit from this course. The class will have a combination of lecture and hands-on with a small class size for a well rounded experience with personal attention. There will be some equipment to try out, so owning close-up equipment is welcome but not required to take the class.

Night photography opens a world of possibilities for dynamic images. Topics include sunsets/dusk, fireworks, star trails, and much more. A small class size and in-the-field workshop will give invaluable attention and experience. The only equipment required will be a DSLR, a tripod, and cable release.

Our class will show you the massive potential of RAW. Learn the benefits of shooting the RAW format vs. other file formats. Gain an understanding of how to properly expose your images and how to optimize image files using Adobe Camera RAW (Photoshop). Using RAW and taking this course will give you more control of exposure, white balance, dynamic range, color, and more! This course is designed for digital photographers who want to get the most out of their image file.
Two week course ~ Two 3 hour sessions

Prerequisites: Owning a laptop with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 or higher or Adobe Photoshop CS or higher is required.

Beautiful light is a key ingredient to great photography. The full-day workshop will discuss the basic principles of light and show the way to stunning portraiture lighting with simple equipment such as small battery powered strobes and lightweight accessories. Both indoor and outdoor lighting will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced hand-on!

Generally these are multi-week and include lecture as well as invaluable hands-on experience.

Bedford Camera School of Photography Policies
Cancellations: Cancellations two weeks or more prior to the first class will receive a full refund. Cancellations less than two weeks to the first class will receive 50% store credit to Bedford Camera and Video. Transfers to another scheduled class must be done at least two weeks prior to the first class. No refunds will be given for classes missed.
Inclement Weather In times of inclement weather you may call the store to check the status of your class. Please call the appropriate store phone number located for more information.
Class Enrollment Bedford Camera and Video reserves the right to cancel classes when the enrollment is 50% or less the day before the first class session. Full store credit to Bedford Camera and Video will be issued toward each student in a class cancellation situation.
Field Trips All students will be required to sign a liability release form prior to attending a Bedford Camera & Video field trip.
